A. Getting to Stralsund by Train or Bus

If you consider travelling to Stralsund by train or bus, you might find the following websites helpful:

Stralsund has different train stops. If you would like to indicate Stralsund main station as destination, please choose Stralsund Hauptbahnhof (abbr. Hbf). If a postal code is required, please enter: 18437.

B. Getting to Stralsund by Car

In case you consider travelling to the conference by car, be aware of the fact that Stralsund has different postal codes depending on the area where your accommodation is located. So, please make sure to check the postal code with the booking confirmation of your accommodation when entering the destination into your navigation system.

C. Getting to Stralsund by Plane

  1. Fly into Hamburg Airport, then take the suburban train (“S-Bahn”)  S1  in the direction of Wedel (Holst) to the main station (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, abbreviation: Hbf). The suburban train stop at Hamburg Airport is under the arrival area of Terminal 1 and 2. Ticket machines are available in the arrival areas at the baggage carousels. The ticket price is 3.60 EUR. Line S1 runs every 10 minutes between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm and every 20 minutes beyond these times. At the main station, take the train to Stralsund main station (Stralsund Hauptbahnhof, Hbf). The train transfer takes 3.5-4.5 hrs depending on the type of train. The fare for a one-way ticket varies between 25 EUR and 50 EUR. Train tickets should be booked online before your trip: https://int.bahn.de/en. If this is not possible, make sure to look for the train staff once you get on the train.

    NOTE: When traveling from Hamburg main station to the airport (return trip!), be aware that S1 trains split up at Ohlsdorf. For the airport, be sure to board one of the first three cars, since the other cars are going to Poppenbüttel.

  2. Fly into Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) Airport, then take either the Airport Express (Flughafenexpress, FEX), a regional train (RB23, RE8) or a suburban train (S-Bahn,  S9  S45  ) to Berlin main station. The train platforms at the airport are located under Terminal 1. There is a train going to the main station every 15-20 minutes. BER Airport is situated in Zone C. For a single trip from the airport to the main station you need a Berlin ABC ticket (3.80 EUR). At the main station, take the train to Stralsund main station (Stralsund Hauptbahnhof, Hbf). The train transfer takes 3.5-4 hrs depending on the type of train. The fare for a one-way ticket varies between 25 EUR and 50 EUR.
